Founded in 1949, Grand Canyon University is a leading, private, and accredited Christian university located in Phoenix, Arizona. The University offers online and campus-based Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs through the Ken Blanchard College of Business, College of Education, College of Nursing and Health Sciences, and College of Humanities and Social Sciences.

Grand Canyon University has been ranked the Number One online university in the US for the year 2007 by the independent agency, Online Education Database. FORTUNE Small Business magazine has ranked Grand Canyon University among the top five schools offering the best online programs.


In 1949, Grand Canyon University opened it doors in Prescott, Arizona. On October 8, 1951, Grand Canyon College relocated to Phoenix, Arizona. In 1968, the University received accreditation by the North Central Association. In the1980s, the academic program expanded into colleges of education, nursing, business, performing arts, and arts and sciences. Masters programs were later created in the areas of education and business.

The Ken Blanchard College School of Business

Through The Ken Blanchard College of Business, Grand Canyon University offers a variety of business studies at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The Ken Blanchard College of Business is dedicated to providing its students with quality education through high academic principles. The business curriculum covers all professional business topics in order to achieve solid academic and career awareness.

Undergraduate Degrees

The Ken Blanchard College of Business has two types of undergraduate students – those seeking a business degree and employed adults studying to complete their degrees. Undergraduate degrees include: Accounting, Marketing, Business Administration, and Entrepreneurial Studies. The Ken Blanchard College of Business offers a variety of professional studies at the undergraduate level. Undergraduate professional studies degrees include: Applied Management Program, Emergency Management, and Public Safety Administration.

Graduate Programs

The Ken Blanchard College of Business offers a number of graduate programs that are grouped in the following: Master of Business Administration programs and Master of Leadership Programs. All programs can be taken completely online. In some instances, programs can be composed of both online and classroom courses. All programs are regionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. The Master of Business Administration programs are also accredited by the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP).

Certificate Programs

The Certificate Programs offered by The Ken Blanchard College of Business provides students with a certificate acknowledging competence and completion of the courses. Certificate programs can also be applied toward either the Master of Business Administration Degree or the Master of Science in Leadership Degree. There are two certificate programs within the field of emergency management. One focuses on Public Safety Personnel, and the other on Healthcare Personnel.

Grand Canyon University Online

Grand Canyon University Online works to make the online experience both rewarding and convenient. All of the courses use Angel technology allowing a consistent format in each of the classes that students take. Each student’s account will have all of the essential resources which will include a course syllabus, staff information, discussion boards, and a digital drop box to submit assignments. College of Nursing and Health Sciences

Grand Canyon University’s College of Nursing and Health Sciences has programs for those just starting out in the field of nursing and health sciences, as well as those looking to advance their current career. Undergraduate degrees include: Bachelor of Science in Addiction Counseling, Medical Imaging Sciences, and Health Sciences: Professional Development and Advanced Patient Care. The College offers Certificates of Completion in Advanced Graduate Studies in Addiction Counseling, Vascular Interventional Technology, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Mammography, Computed Tomography, Cardiac Interventional Technology, as well as the Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN to BSN)

Graduate degree programs include: Certificate of Completion in Advanced Graduate Studies in Addiction Counseling, and Nursing Education. As well, they offer Master of Science degrees in Addiction Counseling, Nurse Education, Nursing Leadership in Health Care Systems, Professional Counseling, and a Post-Master of Science.

College of Humanities and Social Sciences

Grand Canyon University’s College of Humanities and Social Sciences offers a variety of majors that include: COLA Undergraduate Minors and Concentrations, Bachelor of Arts in Christian Studies, Bachelor of Arts in Communications, Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies, Bachelor of Science in Justice Studies, and Bachelor of Science in Psychology

College of Education

The College of Education offers a number of undergraduate degree and graduate degrees in elementary and secondary education specializing in a number of fields that include: Administration, Organizational Leadership, English, Technology, Social Studies, Science, and Math. As well, the College offers Master Programs in Education and a Doctor of Education in Organizational Leadership.

Financial Aid

There are many financial options available to Grand Canyon University applicants. There are two types of Financial Aid available to all qualifying students: The Self-Help Aid and The Gift Aid. Self Help Aid is made up of low interest loans. These loans are available to both undergraduate and graduate level students who are accepted into an eligible program of study and are enrolled at least half time. Gift Aid consists of Scholarships and Grants, which may be awarded to those with financial need. They are available only to first-time undergraduate students. The AMS TuitionPay Budget Plan allows students to pay University charges in convenient monthly payments. This helps the student make consistent tuition payments without interest or financial charges. The monthly payment plan is available to all families regardless of their financial need.


Grand Canyon University has a special group of scholarships available for their online students. They also offer scholarships to active and veteran military personnel. There are a number of military benefits from the government based on military status at the time of departure from the service as well as for active duty. There are several VA educational benefits a student may utilize at GCU such as the Montgomery GI Bill, Tuition Assistance (Top-Up), Tutorial Assistance, and Vocational Rehabilitation.
