History

Florida Hospital College of Health Sciences operated as the Florida Hospital School of Nursing from 1913 to 1958.  Southern Missionary College began to send nursing students from their Tennessee base to obtain clinical experience in Orlando.  Southern Missionary College eventually offered an associate degree in Nursing through an Orlando Center, and Florida Hospital founded the School of Practical Nursing.  It offered programs such as Radiography and Sonography.

In 1992, all of these programs came together as one with the formation of Florida Hospital College of Health Sciences.  It became a baccalaureate level institution in 1998.  Since that time, FHCHS has begun three Associate of Science degrees, four bachelor degrees, and a baccalaureate degree.

Academics

Florida Hospital College of Health Sciences provides a firm foundation with courses in humanities, biological science, physical science, and social science.  Although these courses were developed with the College’s professional programs in mind, these courses also serve as a strong basis for those interested in pursuing careers in Medicine, Dentistry, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Veterinary Medicine.

Certificate programs at FHCHS include Advanced Placement in Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Advanced Modalities in Radiography, and Nuclear Medicine Technology.

Online Learning

Florida Hospital College of Health Sciences created its distance learning program for the working professional balancing home, work, and educational responsibilities.  FHCHS offers a flexible schedule with a very structured, seven-layer support team, which includes an enrollment advisor, a course instructor, professional facilitator, program manager, fellow peers, e-learning help desk, and student services.  The College’s personal blend of distance learning resources includes media presentations, readings, discussion sessions, online assignments, and peer and professional support systems.  Students can learn at home via the internet with discussion forums, e-mail, chats, exams, and course schedules.  Students will also be assigned a small group, which will serve both as a support team and a virtual classroom.  Additionally, the practical assignments will allow professionals to put their education to good use in the current workplace and community while working toward an ultimate goal.
