Ashford University is a private prominent liberal arts university located in Clinton, Iowa. Ashford provides accessible, affordable, and first-rate courses and degree programs that meet and exceeds the various needs of its students. Ashford University grants the Bachelor of Arts degree in fourteen different majors ranging from Accounting through Visual Arts. Students can also choose from nine Bachelor of Science majors, such as Biology, Health Science, or Natural Science. Ashford also provides the Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) degree, tailored to a specific subject area. Students may add a minor to any of these Bachelor’s degree programs.

The on-campus undergraduate student-to-faculty ratio is approximately 12 to 1, allowing for personal attention from each instructor. Ashford University has helped thousands of students prosper through higher education.

Ashford University Accreditation

Ashford University is regionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, and is eligible to participate in US Department of Education Title IV Student Loan Programs.


In 1918, Mount St. Clare College was founded as a junior college by the Sisters of St. Francis, Clinton, Iowa. In 1950 the College was first accredited by the North Central Association Colleges and Schools, and has since maintained that accreditation. The first degree offered was Business Administration. The Durgin Educational Center was completed in April 1998. In December 2002, Mount St. Clare College became The Franciscan University and in May 2004 it conferred its first Master’s degrees. Bridgepoint Education, Inc. acquired the institution in 2005, and its name was changed to Ashford University.


Ashford University offers a number of majors and degree programs that includes: Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Applied Science with a core study subject, and Pre-Professional Programs.

Undergraduate Programs

Bachelor of Arts (B.A.): Accounting, Professional Accounting Program, Business Administration, Business Education, Computer Graphic Design, Elementary Education with endorsements in: English/Language Arts (K-6), Mathematics (K-6), Middle School (5-8), Reading (K-6), Science-Basic (K-6), Social Science-History (K-6), and Social Science-Social Studies (K-6), English and Communication, Environmental Studies, Health Care Administration, Psychology, Public Relations and Marketing, Secondary Education with endorsements in: General Business, Marketing Management, Math English/Language Arts, General Science, Biology, Chemistry, American History, World History, Sociology, Psychology, Middle School, Special Education – Instructional, Specialist I, Coaching (Authorization or Endorsement), Social and Criminal Justice, Social Science, Sports and Recreation Management, and Visual Art.

Bachelor of Science (B.S.): Biology, Clinical Cytotechnology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Computer Science and Mathematics, Health Science, Health Science Administration, Natural Science, and Nuclear Medicine Technology.

Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.S): with the following cores: Accounting Core, Computer Core, Computer Graphic Design Core, Health Care Administration Core, and Management Core.

Master’s Degree Programs

Ashford offers the Master of Business Administration and Master of Arts in Organizational Management.

Ashford Aspire

ASPIRE ideal programs are designed for working adults and those with uncompleted degrees. Attend accelerated 5-week Bachelor’s or 6-week Master’s programs at the campus during the evenings and earn your degree in as little as 16 months. Classes are only one night per week. Programs include: Bachelor of Arts in Organizational Management, Master of Business Administration (MBA), and Master of Arts in Organizational Management.

Online Degrees

Ashford University’s online programs allow students to earn their Bachelor’s or Master’s degree without interrupting their jobs and life’s daily routines. The program is affordable, accelerated, and convenient. Earn your degree in as few as 12 months. Classes are 5-6 weeks and are taken one at a time. Plus, you can transfer up to 99 approved credits toward your Bachelor’s degree. Enjoy the flexibility of online courses 24 hours a day. Online classes are asynchronous, so like with email, you can login anytime to participate and post your work in class.

Transfer of Credits

At Ashford, a student’s past college endeavors are respected and recognized. Most educational institutions only accept 60 credits in transfer, but Ashford University accepts 99 credits in transfer, allowing students to achieve their educational and career goals much faster. Students can use previous coursework credits or combine coursework with up to 75 non-traditional credits for a maximum total of 99 semester credits that can be transferred to Ashford University.

Military Transfer of Credits

At Ashford University, military and training experience is highly regarded and respected. Students can transfer up to 75 military credits at Ashford University. As well, Ashford University will request all college and military transcripts on behalf of the student. Use Credits can be used satisfy requirements in the Bachelor’s program.


Ashford University is located in Clinton, Iowa. The campus features seven facilities to meet academic, athletic, recreational, and social needs. The main complex comprises 5 interconnected buildings: St. Clare, the Science Building, the Library, St. Francis, and Regis. Not far from the main complex are Durham Hall and the Durgin Educational Center.

Financial aid is available in the form of Federal Financial Aid, State Financial Aid, and Non-Federal Student Loans.
